Shelly Sachs Foundation
The Shelly Sachs Foundation is a 501c3/W9 nonprofit organization assisting families living with, through and beyond cancer. The foundation is in loving memory of Shelly Sachs and was created by Aaron Sachs and his children to assist families fighting cancer. The Foundation’s purpose is to offer comfort to those who suffer with the burden of cancer. Cancer not only changes the patient but also the lives of their families. Cancer patients may suffer tremendous hardship emotionally and financially. We hope to take some of that worry and burden away from them.
If you would like to help with assisting families in living with, through, and beyond cancer by donating to the foundation, check out their link. https://www.shellysachsfoundation.org
This year’s guest was Hall of Fame Manager Whitey Herzog. Being born and bred a St Louis Cardinals fan, my formative years of cheering the Cardinals was the Whitey Herzog era. Whitey has always been my favorite Cardinals manager.
His style of managing is affectionately referred to as Whitey Ball. He revolutionized the art of hit-and-run base-stealing baseball. He has always been known for saying what is on his mind…even if it’s not politically correct.
Whitey’s Wisdom
I tried to take notes. I know I missed some good ones, but here are some of his quotes…
You don’t have to have a lot of experience if you have the ability to do what you are told to do.
I didn’t want to keep Joaquín [Andújar] because he was NUTS!
So many kids are so spoiled today. They take it for it for granted.
I’ve been getting so many bubble gum cards in the mail. So many that I can’t get them out of my mail box. They know we lost Stan, Lou and Gibson just last night. They all want to get my damn autograph before I die. I really believe that.
When Willie [McGee] first came up, you won’t hardly talk in interviews. He would give one word answers. Now, giving Willie McGee a microphone is like giving whiskey to an Indian.
This season is a joke!
If you’re going to be successful, you HAVE to be honest. You can always remember the truth, but you can’t remember a lie.
It was a beautiful evening to sit outside on the field and listen to Whitey talk about his life and career in baseball. He truly is a Legend of Baseball!
