2023.06.29 Google Maps Car

Have you ever been driving and see a Google Maps car (or some other online mapping service) drive by? While driving home on a warm June afternoon, I spotted the Google Maps car heading the same direction I was going. This has happened to me probably twenty or twenty-five times that I remember. I always think that I am going to remember to check the map and see if I can see myself. I almost always forget. Until now. I made sure to make a calendar reminder to keep checking Google Maps until I found the update.

I first saw it as I was coming into Billings, Missouri, headed towards Republic. I am not saying I exceeded the speed limit or broke any traffic laws, but I am saying fate had plans for me to catch up to it. I caught up with it as we were coming into Republic. It wasn’t until July that the updated photos were on Google Maps. It was pretty cool to see my car on Google Maps.

Obviously, there are many of these cars around the country and even more around the world. You can check out where the Google Maps car is here. Some people will actually stage a scene in hopes of making a viral photo once their route has been uploaded to Google Maps. Here are some hints.
