Mr. & Mrs Michael Plumb

In mid-November, I had the honor of officiating the wedding for my nephew and (now) niece, Michael and Amber Plumb. The wedding was at a beautiful venue in their hometown of Holland, Michigan. The venue was The Study Hall at Midtown Center.

The venue was originally built as the Holland High School. It began its life in 1913. The last graduating class in this building was the Class of 1963. A new high school was built and this building transitioned into the E.E. Fell Jr. High School. Through a series of transitions, the building became vacant by 2004. In 2005, Jubilee Ministries purchased the building and transformed it into the beautiful venue it is today. The building hosts several non-profit organizations that enhance the Holland, Michigan area.

For their unity ceremony, Michael and Amber chose to do a Unity Vase. There were two small jars of different colored glass crystals. The separate jars represented Michael & Amber’s individual lives, friends, and family. Near the end of the ceremony, they each took their jar of glass crystals and poured them into one larger jar. This represented the blending of their lives, family and friends as one.

The combined jar of glass crystals were taken to a glass smith. The glass smith heated the combined crystals to its melting point, solidifying the blend, then created a beautiful vase that Michael & Amber display in their home. (You can see the blend crystals in their raw form on the alter picture above.) Here is the finished vase.

Downtown Holland, Michigan

In between the rehearsal and ceremony, we were able to explore the sites of Holland, Michigan. It is a lovely little town that I would love to explore more. Our lake day was not too successful due to arctic winds that were gusting over 50 knots but the downtown area was very quaint and charming.
